His captivating image of Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin ploughing through the dust at Vodafone Rally de Portugal emerged as the winner in our fan poll, which featured a shortlist of 10 outstanding entries submitted by the WRC's premier photographers.
“I am really surprised,” an overjoyed Fronek shared with WRC.com. “The competition was tough this time with lots of nice photos, and it was only my second time in the final 10. I would like to thank all the fans for voting!”
Fronek elaborated on his strategic approach, highlighting the combination of meticulous planning and a stroke of luck that contributed to capturing the award-winning shot.
“I like scenery photos, but [previously] I didn’t make it into the top 10 with ‘postcard’ pictures,” he explained. “That is why I selected a pure action photograph from the 2023 season.
“My photo from Rally Portugal is more about luck than skills. I followed Rally.TV onboards from previous years before the event and I knew that some cars dig into the ground in this part of the stage on the second passage. It was dry enough, so I took a risk and it worked just for a few cars, but it worked very well!”
In second place was Timo Anis’ shot of Takamoto Katsuta getting airborne at Safari Rally Kenya. Andre Lavadinho’s photograph of Pierre-Louis Loubet at the same event bagged third.
