Resurgent Lappi targets Greece podium

The Finn’s home round of the Fia World Rally Championship, last month’s Secto Rally Finland, ended in disappointment when he went off the road and out on the opening full day of competition.

Prior to that, the 32-year-old was a top-three finisher on four of his last five starts aboard an i20 N Rally1. His rough rally pace is beyond question – he’s won stages in Greece before and led on similar terrain in Turkey in 2019.

“Greece is a tough one,” said Lappi, “but the goal is for the podium – that’s where I want to be on Sunday, so this is what we will be pushing for.

“Of course, Finland was disappointing. I didn’t feel like I was comfortable with the car and when I was pushing it was becoming more uncomfortable. Greece is a very different rally.”

Lappi added that the current high temperatures in and around Lamia would make the event even more testing.

“It’s going to be hot, that’s for sure,” he said. “That makes it very demanding for the tyres and brakes and for the crew as well – we have to stay hydrated. We have to stay out of trouble and keep the car on the clean line for the maximum grip."
