Korean manufacturer Hyundai announced at the Paris Motor Show yesterday that it would contest the series, possibly as early as 2013, with a World Rally Car version of its i20 model.
Following the news, President Todt said: “We are delighted to welcome Hyundai back into our rallying family. This is a great boost to our championship and underlines the faith global manufacturers have in our sport, despite the difficult economic times we all face.”
Hyundai’s news came on the same day that Citroen confirmed its participation in the 2013 championship with a three-car team of DS3 WRCs in partnership with Abu Dhabi.
The 2012 WRC resumes on Rallye de France Alsace from 4-7 October.
