Timo Anis claims WRC Photo of the Year honour

Estonian photographer Timo Anis is starting 2025 on a high after winning the ProGrade Digital WRC Photograph of the Year 2024 competition.

Anis’ striking image of 2024 WRC champions Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe launching their Hyundai i20 N Rally1 HYBRID through the air at Safari Rally Kenya captivated fans. The shot, complete with a helicopter trailing dramatically behind, earned an impressive 34 per cent of the vote during the December fan poll.

Second place went to Gergely Makai’s poignant photo of Esapekka Lappi’s battered Hyundai at Secto Rally Finland. Lorenzo Martincich rounded out the top three with his atmospheric capture of Adrien Fourmaux leaping sideways through the darkness at Rally Sweden.

“First of all, I would like to thank everyone who supported and voted for this image,” Anis said. “I’m very grateful to all of you and it means a lot to me! I love Safari Rally Kenya, its people, and beautiful nature and animals. It’s absolutely fantastic that I was able to take this image on that event!”

Anis shared insight into the process behind the award-winning image, saying: “This location presented a fantastic challenge for any photographer. My goal was to capture the grandeur, structure, and beauty of the trees. I aimed to frame the jumping rally car interestingly in the background, perfectly positioned between the two trees from my chosen angle. My desire was to capture something different that would create a wow effect and evoke strong positive emotions in the viewer.”
