Like the overall World Rally Championship titles, the battle
for this year’s WRC2 silverware goes down to the final round at FORUM8 Rally
Japan. With his seven permitted scores registered for this season, Solberg will
sit out the Toyota City finale, with Toyota rival Sami Pajari the only driver
who can deny him that victory.
A win or second place in Japan would be enough for Pajari to
take the championship, meaning Solberg needs drivers to get ahead and stay
ahead of the Finn. That’s what Fabia RS Rally2 driver Greensmith intends to do.
“The best thing I can do to help Oliver in Japan is win,”
said Greensmith, looking to add to his sole WRC2 victory in Kenya earlier this
season. “Japan’s not an easy rally, it’s always a tricky one with the
conditions changing and the weather – but I owe Sami one after our last-stage
battle in Croatia.”
Pajari edged the Englishman by three-tenths of a second in
Zagreb. Grensmith wants to reverse that later this month.
“I didn’t quite get him there,” said Greensmith. “That’s
what we’re focused on this time around. I’m looking forward to it. I like
Japan, it’s one of my favourite places to go.”
