The Finn will drive a Toyota Starlet at the popular November
30 event, with his team-mate Takamoto Katsuta’s co-driver Aaron Johnston
pulling the outing together.
“Rallying is big in Ireland,” said Rovanperä, “it’s the same
like home in Finland for that. I heard about Killarney from Aaron [Johnston].
He has been telling me about this event for while. He’s helped to fix
everything for me, so thanks to him. It sounds like a really cool rally with
lots of fans and some nice roads.”
Rovanperä will use a Starlet loaned by local driver Jason
Black.
“I saw some videos of Jason’s car,” said Rovanperä. “It
looks really nice and quick as well – something like 380bhp. I think that’s
enough. I haven’t done so much watching of the onboards yet, but I saw some
clips from the Moll’s Gap stage. This looks something special, so many fans
there and such an amazing atmosphere.
“I’m looking forward to the rally and to seeing so many of
the fans out there.”
The 24-year-old two-time world champion is, of course, well
acquainted with a Toyota Starlet, having started his rallying career in one 16
years ago.
