Fourmaux: I will bounce back

Adrien Fourmaux says he will bounce back from a tough Rally Italia Sardegna at this month’s ORLEN 80th Rally Poland.

The Frenchman was running in the top-three on the Italian island when he suffered a puncture, then an alternator issue which forced his M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 Hybrid out of the event. He returned and was classified 15th but still took three final-day points.

After a strong start to the season with podiums on the two of the first three rounds, Fourmaux has lost ground in the championship battle – but the reigning British champion is positive about his maiden trip to Mikołajki.

“The pace we could showed in Sardinia was quite positive,” he said. “We need to work a little bit in some of the slower corners, but that was something a bit more specific [for Sardinia]. It was good to take some [Wolf] Power Stage points, but we wanted more from the Super Sunday standings.

“The smooth gravel rallies which are coming now are the focus for us and overall I’m happy with the car. It would be good to be coming back to the podium again like the start of the season – to chase more points again.”

Fourmaux’s return to a full-time factory seat has been one of the highlights of the season so far, with the M-Sport driver running third in the championship standings until last month’s Vodafone Rally de Portugal.
