Rossel targets Italy triumph with upgraded C3 Rally2

Citroën star Yohan Rossel will bid to extend his WRC2 lead at Rally Italia Sardegna this week (30 May – 2 June), with the Frenchman’s aspirations boosted by recent upgrades to his C3 Rally2 car.

Rossel heads into the Mediterranean island fixture 10 points ahead of his nearest title challenger Oliver Solberg, having previously won his class here in 2021. On Wednesday, his Citroën Racing team confirmed a raft of technical upgrades fitted to both Rossel’s car and that of his team-mate Nikolay Gryazin.

The first improvement is a redesigned roof-mounted air intake, offering better aerodynamic flow over the car for increased performance. The car’s air box has also been modified to offer increased air flow and higher horsepower, while Citroën has also fine-tuned the C3 Rally2’s heat exchanger, air inlets, and supercharging circuit to boost power and engine responsiveness.

These upgrades, which understands will be available to customer drivers in the coming weeks, were fitted to both works cars in Croatia and Portugal. Gryazin and Rossel secured a 1-2 finish on Tarmac in Croatia, while Gryazin was the highest-placed Rally2 contender in Portugal.

Alongside new co-driver Benjamin Boulloud, Rossel tops an impressive 39-car WRC2 entry for the series’ Italian leg. With Gryazin and Solberg both opting not to score points, he has the perfect opportunity to widen his lead.

Other headline entrants include Hyundai i20 N driver Nicolas Ciamin, currently fourth in the points, Ford Fiesta star Pepe López and Toyota GR Yaris hotshots Sami Pajari and Jan Solans, the latter fresh from claiming a hard-fought victory over Josh McErlean last time out.
