Why “stay classy” Fourmaux is excited about Italy

M-Sport Ford star Adrien Fourmaux has high hopes for Rally Italia Sardegna (30 May – 2 June), and rightfully so.

Twenty-nine-year-old Fourmaux will head to the sixth round of the 2024 FIA World Rally Championship with a positive mindset, riding the wave of his career’s finest form to date. He has secured top five finishes – including two podiums – on all but one rally so far this year.

The Frenchman was in high spirits at Vodafone Rally de Portugal earlier this month, where he entertained by reciting quotes from Will Ferrell movies en route to a fourth-place finish in his Puma Rally1. Despite past struggles on the WRC's Italian leg, Fourmaux is feeling optimistic about his next challenge at Rally Italia Sardegna.

“We’ve always been competitive in Sardinia,” Fourmaux told, “but we’ve never finished in one piece. Or I broke a suspension arm, I broke another suspension arm and I broke another suspension arm.

“I’ve always been competitive there, but [there have been] mistakes. A small mistake and then it breaks the arm.

“Anyway,” he smiled. “The pace is there, I know the stages, and I am more reliable than before… so it should be okay.”

Fourmaux dropped from third to fourth place in the drivers’ championship standings after Portugal. However, with Italy’s sun-baked tracks often favouring those running further down the starting order, he doesn’t see that as a bad thing.

“We’re going to try to make a good rally there,” Fourmaux said. “We’re going to be fourth on the road, so it’s one step behind and maybe that’s going to help.”
