WRC takes lighter approach in hardcore fan engagement

The launch of WRC’s WhatsApp channel offers the championship a lighter way to engage with its hardcore fans, enthuses WRC Promoter’s Senior Director of Content and Communication Florian Ruth.

Soft-launched earlier this year, WRC’s WhatsApp channel has quickly proven to produce some of the highest engagement rates across the WRC’s social platforms, with quickfire polls and memes proving particularly popular.

“Starting our WhatsApp channel, we wanted to test the waters with our hardcore community to see what would elicit the biggest response from them – so far that is proving to be lighter content that would not necessarily appear on our other platforms,” expressed Ruth.

With a strategy focused on evolving and adapting to social media trends, building a community within WhatsApp was a natural progression of WRC’s social direction, explains Ruth.

“We saw quickly how other sports and teams were building a community on the platform and how it can offer a completely different experience for fans. It appeals to our hardcore followers who only want WRC content and are not distracted by other content in a feed.

“We know how many people are using WhatsApp on a daily basis for non-social means and to be able to give them their rally content in same place, with an easy useability has a high appeal.”

The WRC has continued to enjoy strong growth across its social media channels, which will be further bolstered by its WhatsApp presence.
