Rovanperä takes the positives from short-lived Sweden push

Kalle Rovanperä said the pace of his Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 was a silver-lining to his otherwise cloudy Rally Sweden.

The Finn crashed out of the lead of the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship, landing his Yaris in a snowbank and damaging the radiator. Although frustrated at the way his maiden 2024 outing had ended, the reigning champion was impressed with the pace in his car.

“The car was fast enough to win,” he said. “We worked with the car before the event and it was really good. It’s positive that we could have been in the fight, but I just couldn’t bring everything together.

“We could bring some points on the final day to help the team, that was as much as we could do. With the test and the Arctic [Lapland Rally], we did a really good preparation for this event and I was coming here to try to win. I’m sorry [for the team] and thanks to them for the work they did.”

Rovanperä’s second outing of the WRC season has yet to be confirmed by the Jyväskylä-based team.
