The Norwegian will share an i20 N Rally1 Hybrid with Esapekka Lappi and Dani Sordo and is hoping this part-programme will give him the opportunity to push for a full-time return the World Rally Championship’s top category in 2025.
“I still believe I can fight for the title,” said last year’s WRC2 winner. “That’s not possible this year, but who knows for the future. I believe I can build my way back – this season is another step in that direction.”
Mikkelsen added that he would have no hesitation in stepping aside for his title battling team-mates Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak, both of whom are running all 13 rounds with the Korean manufacturer.
He added: “I am there to support Thierry and Ott. If there’s a situation where I have to let these guys past then there is no question, of course I will do it. And if I need to do that then it means I’ve done a great weekend.
“But it also means taking away points from their rivals – and we have to push flat out to do that. I’m looking forward to this year. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m ready to make the best of it.”
