Hyundai finalised its 2024 line-up on Wednesday, naming the Norwegian and Dani Sordo as the drivers who would join Esapekka Lappi in sharing a third factory i20 N Rally1 Hybrid.
Speaking about his return to the top of the sport, Mikkelsen said: "My position is really straightforward: I am there to support Thierry and Ott, and I am there to try to take away points from rivals like Elfyn [Evans]. To do that, to take points from Elfyn, then I will have to push and go flat-out.
"And if I have to slow down for Ott or Thierry, then that means my rally has been going well."
Reflecting on Wednesday’s news, Mikkelsen added: "Of course, I am really happy for this. I would love to have been doing more rallies, the full programme, but this is good for me. It’s a good step back.
"Škoda has been amazing, and like I said many times, I’m really grateful for everything we have done together, and they will always be special for me – but Rally1 is where I want to be!"
