Neuville shuts out 2019 Chile memories

Hyundai Motorsport star Thierry Neuville has set his sights on landing the Rally Chile Bio Bió podium finish he was close to four years ago.

In 2019 the Belgian’s maiden run on the Concepción-based event ended abruptly when he crashed out on the Maria Las Cruces stage. That road is one of the few that remain on the itinerary for this week, but Neuville joked that what happened last time is out of his mind.

“I’ve forgotten about that,” he smiled.

He rolled the i20 Coupe WRC out of a provisional podium place four years ago, but is hoping to continue his superb gravel pace with a top-three finish in South America on Sunday.

“Rally Chile,” he added, “has only been run once before and this time there are going to be a lot of new stages, so our previous experience does not help our preparations too much. Because of this, the recce will be very important.

“Last time in Chile it was quite tough for me, but we go back this year with the target of having a good rally and finishing the weekend on the podium. For this to happen we will need consistency, a great feeling in the car and a setup that works well on the roads. If we can get all of those things to align, we will be fast.”
