Munster hints at more Rally1 appearances

Grégoire Munster has hinted that he may have further opportunities lined up - beyond his Rally1 debut next week - to compete in an M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 this season.

Munster, who lives in Belgium but holds a Luxembourgish driving license, will make his debut in the FIA World Rally Championship’s premier category at Rally Chile Bio Bío (28 September - 1 October) next week, driving a Ford Puma Rally1 generously provided by his friend and supporter Jourdan Serderidis

While his primary focus for the upcoming fixture is to gather valuable experience of top-level competition on gravel terrain, Munster, 24, also dropped a tantalising hint that he might also pilot the Puma on an asphalt rally later in the season.

“Hopefully we can do another one after [Chile] on Tarmac,” Munster shared with WRC.com. “The goal will be to do one rally on each surface, just to know what it feels like to be in the Rally1.”

Having spent his early career competing in the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup in Germany, Munster is eyeing the Central European Rally as a potential option. The all-new WRC event spans across stages in Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.

“It might be [an option],” acknowledged the youngster. “But then, on the other hand, we won Japan in WRC2 last year, so we could go there. In my younger years I was driving a lot in Germany - so that’s a hint.”

Of his relationship with Serderidis, Munster said: “Without him, I wouldn’t be here. Because he rallies himself, he knows the rally world and how difficult it is to get to the top without the support. He helped me already from the beginning of the previous year and I cannot thank him enough.

“We met each other in the Belgian championship on multiple events and it’s like this that we built our relationship - and now it’s stronger than ever."
