Dominguez keeps his WRC3 title dreams alive

It was a tale of two halves on Friday as Diego Dominguez found himself locked in an inseparable battle with Frenchman Laurent Pellier for WRC3 honours at EKO Acropolis Rally Greece.

Paraguayan star Dominguez requires victory in Greece to have any chance of tying with championship leader Roope Korhonen, who has picked up a perfect 100 points from his four points-scoring starts.

Incredibly, nothing could separate them through Friday’s action, with the pair ending the day on identical times in Ford Fiesta Rally3 cars.

The morning belonged to Dominguez, who claimed victories on both speed tests before the third of the day was cancelled. But in the afternoon, Pellier stormed back, cutting the gap from 8.9sec to 0.1sec going into the day’s finale.

He then held off his South American rival by that exact margin on the final test, ensuring the duo returned to Lamia's service park 1min 53.5sec clear of third-placed Tom Rensonnet.

Overnight leader William Creighton was forced to retire at the midday tyre-fitting zone with radiator damage whilst Turkey’s Ali Turkan failed to restart after experiencing engine problems on Thursday evening’s opening stage.

Eamonn Kelly and Hamza Anwar are locked in a tight battle for fourth position with the former leading the latter by 2.6sec, while Peru’s Eduardo Castro is a further 25.3sec back in sixth.
