Local chargers strengthen WRC3 entry in Greece

A host of local stars will bid to make their mark in the fiercely competitive WRC3 category at EKO Acropolis Rally Greece this week (7 - 10 September).

Topping the entry list among the Greek talents is Epaminondas Karanikolas. Behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Rally3, Karanikolas has already made a lasting impression by securing an impressive third place on his WRC3 debut here in 2022.

While the majority of crews field M-Sport Poland built Fiestas, there's a notable exception in Efthimios Halkias, who's piloting a Renault Clio Rally3. Joining him in the line-up are Spiros Galerakis and Giorgos Delaportas, both steering Fiesta cars.

Another standout contender is Diego Domínguez, who enters his second Acropolis Rally as one of the favourites for victory. The Paraguayan has triumphed in two of the three points-scoring rallies he's contested so far this season. He aims to emulate the flawless score already achieved by championship leader Roope Korhonen, who's absent from this round after winning four consecutive rallies earlier in the year.

Adding international flair to the mix is Turkey’s Ali Türkkan. Despite crashing out on his previous outing at Secto Rally Finland, the 24-year-old is determined to bounce back and sits 12th in the standings thanks to top-five finishes in Italy and Estonia.

Several FIA Junior WRC crews are also vying for points in the WRC3 category this week. Among them are Domínguez, William Creighton and Laurent Pellier.
