WRC extends relationship with Prograde Digital

ProGrade Digital will continue to provide WRC with high-end memory cards and card readers, built to endure the world's toughest conditions.

WRC Promoter has finalised an extended agreement with digital memory solutions company ProGrade Digital to continue as an official supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship.

ProGrade Digital’s memory card and reader solutions have played an integral role in WRC’s television production since 2018 and will continue to do so for at least two more seasons.

WRC Promoter has collaborated with ProGrade to integrate their latest high-end memory cards and card readers, to ensure flawless capture of video and audio in the creation one of the most challenging television productions in the world. The memory cards and a new memory reader component, are used in redesigned rally car onboard kits, along with memory cards used to capture video in WRC’s stage-side cameras.

Installed in all Rally1 cars, the new onboard kits record and transmit live images from the three onboard cameras mounted in each car, meaning ProGrade’s memory cards need to withstand the extreme conditions they are exposed to in the WRC, enduring heavy impacts, blinding dust and harsh in-car temperatures which exceed 50˚C. In Sweden, stage-side camera crews are confronted by temperatures dipping below -25˚C.

“The extreme environments that the WRC travels to and the incredible stress we put ProGrade Digital’s equipment under makes us the perfect testing ground for ProGrade’s products,” enthused WRC Promoter’s Senior Director of Production and Communications Florian Ruth.

He continued: “ProGrade have proven to be a reliable partner for us and with their products in our cameras, we are always confident we can deliver breath-taking images around the world.” “We are excited to be continuing as a sponsor of the FIA World Rally Championship for another two years,” said Wes Brewer, CEO, and founder of ProGrade Digital.

“Building on the brand momentum that we’ve developed in sponsoring the WRC over the past six years, our involvement with this demanding motorsport will continue to highlight the quality, performance and reliability that the ProGrade brand is known for.”

WRC and Prograde are also aligned on their transition to a greener more sustainable future. In the past year, Prograde reduced 98 per cent of plastics in their packaging by using biodegradable materials such as sugar cane and wood pulp fibres, whilst the WRC has moved to 100 per cent sustainable fuels and hybrid systems in Rally1 vehicles.
