Suninen hopes for further Rally1 outings

Teemu Suninen is hoping his two top-five finishes aboard a Hyundai i20 N Rally1 will be enough to net him further FIA World Rally Championship outings with the Korean firm’s factory squad.

After finishing fifth in Estonia, Suninen improved that result by one at Secto Rally Finland earlier this month. While he's frustrated he didn’t make the podium in Jyväskylä, he’s pleased with what he achieved on the summer’s fast gravel rounds.

“I’m happy,” he said. “It has been a busy two months, quite tough time – it would have been good to have more time, a bigger gap, between the two rallies. I think I could have looked more at the data and found out more with the team, but OK.

“I hope [the results are enough for another outing]. I’m very grateful to the team for everything they’ve done for me.

“I’m a little bit disappointed to miss out the podium. There is a lot to process after these two rallies that will help prepare the next one and come back stronger.

“It has been a pleasure working with the Hyundai Motorsport team, they are really supporting me and giving me everything they can. I’m really looking forward to the next rally together.”

Dani Sordo will return to Hyundai’s third i20 N Rally1 at next month’s EKO Acropolis Rally Greece.
