Impressive Korhola consolidates WRC3 lead

Benjamin Korhola is four stages away from claiming his maiden WRC3 triumph after delivering another strong drive through Saturday's Secto Rally Finland stages.

The 20-year-old Finn is starting only his second rally at this level but carries a commanding 40.7sec advantage over compatriot Jesse Kallio into Sunday’s finale. Once again, the pair were tightly matched on Saturday’s high-speed stages to the south of host city Jyväskylä.

While Kallio surged to an impressive three stage wins, leader Korhola netted five of his own to ensure that the buffer he had built up during Friday’s opening leg remained safely intact. Victory this week would avenge Korhola's Rally Estonia heartbreak: he retired from the Baltic fixture after going into a ditch whilst leading his class.

Ali Türkkan was locked into a battle of his own, trading times with Czech hotshot Filip Kohn throughout the day. The latter emerged on top, claiming the final podium spot from Turkey's Türkkan in the penultimate stage while Henri Timonen completed the all-Ford Fiesta Rally3 top five.
