Rovanperä, who topped the WRC standings ahead of this ninth round, had been leading his home event before rolling end-over-end in Friday's Myhinpää stage. Toyota Gazoo Racing mechanics attempted to repair the car overnight to allow Rovanperä to rejoin on Saturday but have been unsuccessful in doing so.
"Sadly the chassis is too badly damaged and we are forced to retire," Rovanperä said in a social media post. "Of course we are massively disappointed about what happened, but it is what it is. Thanks for the support - we will be back stronger."
