Neuville reinvigorated by Estonia podium

Thierry Neuville says his sensational Rally Estonia runners-up spot has inspired him for more of the same when he gets to Secto Rally Finland next week (3 - 6 August).

The Belgian admitted he had hoped to challenge for a podium at last week’s Tartu-based event, but leading the rally on day one and carrying the fight to eventual winner Kalle Rovanperä was more than he could have hoped for.

The Hyundai driver revealed: “I have never been so fast at rallies like this. I am really pleased with the result. I never expected we could lead and then at least we tried to keep the pressure on Kalle until we got the puncture on Saturday morning.”

After finishing second on his second visit to Rally Finland in 2013, Neuville has never beaten that result to win in Jyväskylä.

Now he heads to round nine with a spring in his step.

“What we have done here in Estonia is really good motivation for me for next week,” he said. “We have found confidence and good settings for the fast rallies. In the past Finland hasn’t been such a fun event for me and I have struggled for motivation when I was going there. Next week, I have a feeling, this will be different.”
