It’s been a dream year so far for Korhonen, who has taken a clean sweep of victories in Sweden, Portugal and Italy. A fourth triumph on the blistering gravel roads of Estonia this week would take the 24-year-old’s overall points tally to 100.
With WRC3 competitors able to count their best four results from up to five starts, it’s a score which could be matched, but not beaten. It means that, in the event of a new entrant equalling his efforts over the remaining rounds, the champion would be crowned by tiebreak.
Victory, of course, is far from guaranteed for Korhonen, with an impressive 11 Ford Fiesta Rally3 hopefuls entered in the FIA World Rally Championship’s eighth round. His fellow Finn Toni Herranen has shown impressive pace on similar terrain while Ali Türkkan, hailing from Turkey, secured a podium last time out at Rally Italia Sardegna.
