Dates confirmed for Sweden spectacular

Plans are ramping up for next year’s Rally Sweden with the legendary snow and ice fixture set to take place from 15 - 18 February 2024*.

Organising team Svensk Bilsport today (Friday) confirmed that the event, one of the oldest on the FIA World Rally Championship calendar, will be based in university city Umeå for the third consecutive year.

In addition to a host of ultra-fast stages in the frozen forests of north-eastern Sweden, the fan-favourite Red Barn Arena - a short walk away from the Umeå service park - also returns bigger and better than ever.

According to Anna Nordkvist, Secretary General of the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation and CEO of Rally Sweden, preparations are already underway to ensure an extraordinary experience for the expected 200,000 attendees.

“Work on next year’s major rally fest starts now. We’re focusing a lot on enhancing the experience for the 200,000 or so people we’re expecting, and we’re also making sure all the drivers have the best conditions possible,” she said. “For many of them, it’s an exotic experience to come to Sweden and compete during the winter on snow and ice.

“With The Red Barn Arena walking distance from central Umeå, we’re the only rally event that can offer a genuine front-row rally experience for a large audience. We also have an event area with activities and experiences for the whole family.”

First held in 1950, Rally Sweden is one of the oldest rallies in the world. It is also the only rally on the WRC calendar to take place entirely on snow and ice, making it a unique and popular spectacle among fans worldwide.

In pursuit of the ultimate winter conditions, the event moved north to Umeå in 2022. Studded tyres provide remarkable grip on snow and ice and, paradoxically, it is one of the season’s fastest rounds.
