Chile organisers stage dazzling 2023 launch ceremony

Preparations are racing forward for the WRC’s trip to South America after Rally Chile Biobío organisers hosted a dazzling launch event last week.

The unique gravel fixture plays host to the FIA World Rally Championship’s 11th round from 28 September - 1 October this year. It returns to the calendar for the first time since it debuted in 2019, when Ott Tänak took victory in a Toyota Yaris World Rally Car.

Concepción, Chile’s second-largest city, will once again form the rally hub and bustling service park while Thursday’s start ceremony in Los Ángeles, the capital of province Biobío, is also expected to draw in huge crowds.

The ceremony featured spectacular demonstration runs from WRC2 star and ten-time Chilean champion Jorge Martínez plus Alberto Heller and was headed by regional governor Rodrigo Díaz Worner.

“As locals, we are proud to host a World Rally Championship event again after such a positive first experience four years ago,” said Díaz Worner. “We are sure that families and spectators from Chile and other South American countries will enjoy the show of what is the most important motorsport event for us these days.

“I have faith that we can improve what we did [in 2019] for our citizens, as well for those who will be happy to offer their services from the point of view of people managing accommodations, food, commerce, tourism and many other services.”
