Regular seat time builds the pace for Cais

A busy schedule of rallies in 2023 is helping to lift Erik Cais’ WRC2 pace, the Czech youngster says.

As well as tackling a full seven-round programme in WRC2 this season, Cais is also contesting selected rounds of the FIA European Rally Championship, including Tet Rally Liepāja later this week.

The Latvian event will mark Cais’ eighth rally of the season aboard a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, and the 23-year-old admits he is relishing every opportunity to get behind the wheel.

“For sure, it’s absolutely incredible for building the pace and for building my self-confidence also,” Cais told WRC.com. “I am looking forward to Liepāja to drive on some other roads.

“We had Portugal, then Poland and now Sardinia. Everywhere is absolutely different, and then we go to Liepāja which is also an absolutely different type of gravel. We are still driving on gravel but it’s completely different to other rallies.”

Cais finished sixth in his category at Rally Italia Sardegna earlier this month and holds 12th in the standings four rounds into his WRC2 stint. Outings in Finland, Greece and at the all-new Central European Rally will round out his campaign.
