Millener: We have no intention of letting up

M-Sport Ford team principal Richard Millener has reiterated the British squad’s commitment to landing a first world title since 2018 ahead of next week’s Vodafone Rally de Portugal (11 - 14 May).

Millener’s lead driver Ott Tänak sits fourth in the WRC standings, just four points off the top spot he held following his Rally Sweden win in February. While the Estonian won in Umeå, he’s admitted he’s still finding his feet with the Ford Puma Rally1.

Millener takes confidence from the former world champion’s growing compatibility with the car.

“That’s the point really, isn’t it?” said Millener. “Ott’s right in the thick of the fight for the title, he’s just a handful of points off the lead and he’s still getting comfortable in the car. If he’d been running towards the bottom end of the top-10 in the first four rallies, the situation would be very different.

“It’s not. Ott and the car are getting quicker and quicker and we’ve got no intention of letting up or slowing down in the testing and development of the car.

“From the start of the season we’ve been very clear in our intentions with Ott, the team and the car. Ott’s here for one reason and so are we: we’re fighting for the championship and we’ll do what it takes to make sure we’re right in there at the end of the year.”
