Rossel resumes WRC2 title bid in Croatia

Yohan Rossel will aim to continue his winning form in the WRC2 series as he returns to the fray at this week’s Croatia Rally (20 - 23 April).

The 28-year-old has been out of competition since January when he won the season-opening Rallye Monte-Carlo, collecting maximum Wolf Power Stage bonus points in the process.

Despite his absence, however, Rossel holds strong in second place in the overall championship standings. And, with series leader Oliver Solberg electing not to score points at round four, a solid result could elevate the Citroën C3 Rally2 driver back into the top spot.

Behind Rossel in the talent-packed 19-car entry list stand a trio of Toksport-prepared Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 Evos. Fielding those are reigning champion Emil Lindholm, who sits on an identical score with Rossel going into this rally, Mexico winner Gus Greensmith, and Nikolay Gryazin - who has a score to settle, having missed out on the Monte-Carlo victory by just five-tenths of a second.

M-Sport Ford will run a pair of Fiesta Rally2s for hard-charging youngsters Adrien Fourmaux and Grégoire Munster, while Finnish challenger Sami Pajari also drives for the Toksport outfit. Erik Cais, who hails from the Czech Republic, is another one to watch in his privately entered Fabia.

Estonia’s Georg Linnamäe will start his second WRC round of the season aboard a Hyundai i20 N Rally2, while Nicolas Ciamin completes the leading 10 entries in a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 - the Frenchman back in the WRC for the first time since 2021.

Other entries include Hyundai driver Josh McErlean, who teams up with WRC debutant Patrick O’Brien to form a two-car Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy team, plus FIA European Rally Championship regular Norbert Herczig.

Armin Kremer heads the WRC Masters Cup contingent in a new Škoda. He’ll face rivals including Mauro Miele, Johannes Keferböck and Eamonn Boland.
