Returning Greensmith tops WRC2 entry in Mexico

Gus Greensmith leads an impressive line-up of experienced drivers in the WRC2 field as the Briton begins his campaign at Guanajuato Rally México (16 - 19 March).

Greensmith, who drove an M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 last season, is on a mission to climb back to sport’s top level. The Briton hopes to drive his Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 at every WRC rally from here on in, with Mexico - an event he has started twice previously - marking the first of his season.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking at anything else but winning the championship, but for sure, there’s some good competition this year,” the 26-year-old admitted. “Whoever wins it will be very deserving.”

Joining Greensmith in the battle for WRC2 supremacy is Oliver Solberg, who arrives in Mexico fresh off his victory in Sweden. Solberg, who also drives a Fabia RS Rally2, is currently second in the standings behind Yohan Rossel, who will not compete this week.

For logistical reasons, Emil Lindholm has reverted to the slightly older Fabia Rally2 Evo which carried him and co-driver Reeta Hämäläinen to last year’s WRC2 title. The Finn has some ground to recover after finishing a lowly seventh in Sweden.

Greensmith’s former M-Sport team-mate Adrien Fourmaux is also in action with a Ford Fiesta Rally2. Martin Prokop, another driver with significant experience in the WRC, pilots a similar car on his first outing of the season.

Kajetan Kajetanowicz, who finished third in last year's WRC2 series, also begins his campaign in North America driving a Fabia Rally2 Evo. Other drivers to watch out for include Daniel Chwist, Eduardo Castro and Jorge Martínez, all driving Škodas.
