Peruvian hopeful targets five WRC2 rounds in 2023

There will be another WRC2 regular in action this year as Eduardo Castro, who hails from Peru, kicks off his programme at Guanajuato Rally México (16 - 19 March).

Castro, a multiple rally winner back home in Peru, will drive a Škoda Fabia Rally2 Evo at the FIA World Rally Championship’s third round alongside Argentine co-driver Fernando Mussano.

His car is being prepared and run by Xevi Pons’ MAPO Motorsport team, with Castro hoping to contest at least five WRC2 rallies in total this season. As well as Mexico, planned outings for the 37-year-old include Portugal, Italy, Greece and Chile.

“This year is my first in the championship and I hope to compete in five rallies,” Castro told WRC.com. “For me it's an honour to be able to represent my country and we will always be giving our best.

“With it being my first time in a championship, I see all competitors as rivals and I hope to learn and improve from this experience,” he added.

Other WRC2 drivers hoping to set the pace in Mexico include Gus Greensmith, Oliver Solberg, Emil Lindholm and Adrien Fourmaux.
