Why Bulacia is not contesting Mexico

Marco Bulacia is a driver with fond memories of Guanajuato Rally México. It’s where he made his FIA World Rally Championship debut back in 2018. It’s where he’s twice finished in the top-10 overall.

So why isn’t the Bolivian making the trip to Guanajuato later this month?

“I really like Mexico,” he said. “The place is great and the roads are very nice, but I’m going to go to Chile for my WRC2 round [outside of Europe]. Chile is next to my home country in Bolivia. I was hoping Mexico and Chile would be next to each other on the calendar, so I could do both.

“Maybe next year - this would be something very good for me and, for sure, I would do both.”

While the 22-year-old is eagerly awaiting a Chilean return for the WRC, he’s also looking forward to Vodafone Rally de Portugal, his next WRC2 outing.

He started this season after an injury relating to a Rally Van Staden crash in the middle of last year. That accident ruled him out of WRC action for the second half of 2022. Considering that setback, Bulacia is pleased with his improving speed this season.

“At the start of the year, maybe Monte-Carlo the pace was not so good,” he said, “but that was my first event back after the accident. Everything is getting better now after a long time without driving and we will try to chase the WRC2 Challenger championship.”
