Marczyk unveils new car for WRC2 challenge

Miko Marczyk has acquired a brand-new car in preparation for an attack on this year’s WRC2 championship.

The Polish driver delivered some impressive performances with a Škoda Fabia Rally2 Evo throughout 2022, highlighted by a top-four finish in the premier support category at Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

Marczyk has upgraded to the latest-specification Fabia RS Rally2 for 2023 and will contest at least six rounds, with outings in Portugal, Italy, Estonia and Finland already confirmed.

“Last season was very demanding for us,” said Marczyk. “However, as demanding as it was, it was also a very successful season for us. We took fifth place out of 27 crews in the WRC2 Junior category, and we stood on the podium twice.

“I am very happy that we will continue our journey in WRC2. We will compete in Portugal, Sardinia, Estonia and Finland, where we will use our experience from last year, and we will decide on the remaining rallies during the season.

“I [also] hope that we will compete in one of the rounds outside of the European continent,” he added.

Marczyk will debut his new steed at the opening round of the FIA European Rally Championship, Rally Serras de Fafe, which takes place next month (10 - 12 March).

The event has attracted interest from a number of other WRC regulars, with the likes of Craig Breen, Georg Linnamäe and Fabrizio Zaldivar all expected to contest the Portuguese fixture.

“We will treat this event as a warm-up after the winter break and use it to get familiar with the new car,” Marczyk explained. “The first starts of the Fabia RS look promising and I am curious how soon Szymon (Gospodarczyk, co-driver) and I will start to use the potential of the new car.”
