Pajari welcomes Solberg's WRC2 challenge

Former Junior WRC champion Sami Pajari is pleased Oliver Solberg has joined the Toksport team and the WRC2 ranks this season – feeling the former Hyundai Motorsport star offers the perfect benchmark in pace.

The 21-year-olds shared the WRC2 podium last time out at Rally Sweden, with Oliver taking the win while the Finn finished third.

Pajari, whose Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 completed round two 1m15s behind the sister car of Solberg, said: “It’s definitely good to have Oliver here and competing in WRC2. OK, it’s not so nice to be driving and finishing behind – but his speed is also making me drive faster. I definitely felt that in Sweden and you could see that because we were able to make some fastest times.”

Pajari will skip Guanajuato Rally México (16 - 19 March) and return to the WRC2 series in Europe, where he hopes to better the podium’s bottom step.

“When we are third, we know we can still go forwards,” he said. “That’s what I want to do, I want to keep on pushing and progressing – it would be nice to be in a top car in two years. But for now, we keep going in WRC2 and keep trying to beat the faster guys.”
