Korhonen on course for maiden WRC3 victory

A maiden WRC3 victory awaits young Finn Roope Korhonen after overnight leader William Creighton drifted out of contention when his bonnet came loose on Saturday afternoon.

After surrendering his lead in the dark on Friday night, the 24-year-old was back to full confidence as sunny conditions greeted the one-make Ford Fiesta Rally3 field on Saturday morning. He took the win on the day's opening stage by 3.9sec over Laurent Pellier to move back ahead of Creighton on the leaderboard.

Irishman Creighton immediately bit back to win the next stage, but his lead only remained for one more test as his bonnet flew up early in the afternoon. The mishap cost him more than a minute, leaving Korhonen on top by over 50sec from Frenchman Pellier.

Despite the incident, Creighton was still able to hold onto third position, more than 1min 20sec clear of Diego Dominguez. Rounding out the top five was Belgian youngster Tom Rensonnet.
