Loeb challenges Ogier to Monte-Carlo rematch

Not long after losing his status as the joint most successful driver in the history of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, Sébastien Loeb challenged Sébastien Ogier to a rematch.

In a cheeky social media message, Loeb congratulated his countryman and rival, but asked when he could look to redress the balance and make it nine-all in terms of Monte-Carlo wins.

Loeb’s message read: “Bravo Séb Ogier. When is the revenge of the retirees of the WRC?”

Ogier wasted no time in responding that he hoped the pair would face each other in the French Alps next season.

Ogier’s latest win moves him one Monte victory clear of the Alsatian, who won the 2022 fixture after passing Ogier on the final morning when his rival suffered a puncture.

Talking about the message later, Ogier admitted he loved competing against the nine-time champion.

Asked if there would be a re-match, the Toyota driver said: “I hope so! It’s no secret that I enjoy competition and when he’s there, it’s often nice competition and the more crazy guys we are, the better the show is.

“I think it will be great to have him showing up next year and the other guys in the championship can make it a cool race.”

After running a part-programme with M-Sport Ford last year, Loeb is hoping to find a way back into a Ford Puma Rally1 this season.
