Junior WRC gets South American flavour in 2023

South America will be represented in this year's FIA Junior WRC after Diego Dominguez confirmed his participation in the M-Sport Poland Ford Fiesta Rally3 series today (Tuesday).

Dominguez, who hails from Paraguay, will contest his first full season in the one-make series, which kicks off on Sweden’s snowy roads next month followed by events in Croatia, Italy, Estonia and Greece.

On top of his Junior WRC plans, the youngster will also strive for success in the WRC3 championship with additional outings planned in Mexico, Kenya and Chile.

The announcement comes off the back of a successful 2022 season, during which Dominguez showed blistering speed - capped off by a class win at EKO Acropolis Rally Greece.

“I am very excited,” the 22-year-old exclaimed. “We are going to prepare for every Junior WRC and WRC3 event by driving a regional rally beforehand. This will give us the confidence to complete each event with the results we hope for.”

Dominguez will again be joined inside the car by the vastly experienced Rogelio Peñate, a Spanish co-driver with more than 450 rally starts under his belt.

“Myself and Rogelio have always complemented each other very well, just like the Rally3 car complements my driving. We have found ourselves an easy car to drive and, despite the difference in power compared to Rally2, it has very good speed and excellent cornering. We think it's the right step to going forward.”

The full 2023 FIA Junior WRC line-up will be revealed upon publication of the Rally Sweden entry list on Friday 13 January.
