Citroën stars confirm WRC2 plans

Flying Frenchman Yohan Rossel will fly the flag for Citroën in next year’s WRC2 championship.

Rossel (pictured above) scooped the WRC3 title in 2021 and graduated into WRC2 - the sport’s leading support category - for the 2022 season, finishing fourth in the standings despite clinching back-to-back victories in Croatia and Portugal.

In 2023, the 27-year-old is back to fight for the overall title - campaigning, for the fifth season in succession, a Citroën C3.

Eight rallies feature in Rossel’s programme, which kicks off at next month’s Rallye Monte-Carlo (19 - 22 January) followed by stops in Croatia, Portugal, Sardinia, Estonia, Chile and the all-new Central Europe Rally.

Although supported by Citroën Racing, Rossel’s car will be prepared and maintained by formidable French outfit PH Sport. DG Sport will also run a similar car for Stéphane Lefebvre, although it’s understood the former top-tier pilot may only contest selected rallies.

Another driver set to star with Citroën machinery is Spanish hotshot Alejandro Cachón, who has confirmed plans to undertake a seven-round programme aboard a Sports & You C3.

Cachón made the full-time switch to four-wheel drive power at the beginning of 2022. This season he impressed by securing a brace of national rally victories plus a host of podiums in his homeland.
