Legend Delecour confirms Monte return

Rally legend François Delecour will fight for WRC2 honours at next year’s season-opening Rallye Monte-Carlo (19 - 22 January).

The 60-year-old will drive a brand-new Toksport Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 in the championship’s premier support category - 29 years after he won the Monaco-based fixture with a Ford Escort RS Cosworth in 1994.

Delecour was a frontrunning FIA World Rally Championship driver in the 1990s and early 2000s. He won four WRC events and drove for manufacturers including Ford, Peugeot and Mitsubishi.

The Frenchman still regularly competes today and next month’s fixture will mark his 23rd Monte-Carlo start.

“It is with great joy that I announce my participation in the next Monte-Carlo rally behind the wheel of a superb Škoda WRC2 from Toksport WRT alongside the best drivers in the category,” Delecour revealed in an announcement to his followers on social media.

“Sabrina de Castelli will be by my side to try to put on a nice performance and, believe me, we will do what is necessary! With three days of competition, we will be able to get used to the car and enjoy this rally in the best condition.”
