PK: My WRC XI

WRC commentator and Chelsea diehard fanatic Paul King has been inspired to come up with his all-time WRC football XI with a strong international flair.

Goalkeeper – Gus Greensmith (ENG)

There is really only one choice here. Gus is a former academy player between the sticks for EPL champions Manchester City.

Left Wing Back - Andreas Mikkelsen (NOR)

You need fitness in this position, so the triathlon-loving Norwegian would be a good fit.

Centre Back - Marcus Grönholm (FIN)

A Finnish giant of the Sami Hyypiä (ex-Liverpool) ilk.

Centre Back - Walter Röhrl (GER)

The second link in a big man partnership at the back. And let's be honest, you won’t win much without a German in the side!

Centre Back - Colin McRae (SCO)

Scotland is renowned for its defensive specialists, so Colin would be our own no-nonsense hard-tackling man to represent the Tartan Army.

Right Wing Back - Petter Solberg (NOR)

The WRC’s disco-dancing champion - expect those twinkle toes to do some damage further up the pitch.

Centre Midfielder – Carlos Sainz (ESP)

Another easy choice in the middle of the park. Carlos famously had trials for Real Madrid!

Centre Midfielder - Miki Biasion (ITA)

Representing the Azzurri, some Italian guile from our two-time WRC champion.

Forward – Sébastien Loeb (FRA)

Our serial-winning creative number 10. Think Zinedine Zidane, who also helped France get back to winning ways.

Forward – Sébastien Ogier (FRA)

18 world titles between him and his fellow forwards, this will be a devastating trio. I definitely see goals in this lad.

Forward – Kalle Rovanperä (FIN)

The rapid new world champion - because, let's face it, we could use a bit of youth in this side!

Seb Marshall (ENG)

If all else fails throw the big man on and hope for the best (plus I can see Seb doing a mean Robot dance à la Peter Crouch).

Jorge Recalde (ARG)

It is always good to have some South American flair off the bench.

THE BENCH
Thierry Neuville (BEL)

He doesn’t know when he’s beaten! Also hoping for some Belgian Kevin De Bruyne free-kick magic.

COACHING STAFF
Manager - Andrea Adamo (ITA)

This man will bring no shortage of Italian passion and inspiration.

Assistant Manager - André Villas-Boas (POR)

A rally-loving two-time WRC Portugal entrant plus former Chelsea and Tottenham manager. It would be good to have somebody who knows what they are doing!
