Toyota line-up unlikely to change in 2023

Toyota Gazoo Racing’s 2023 FIA World Rally Championship crew line-up is unlikely to change from this season, according to the team’s senior management.

The Jyväskylä-based squad leads both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships as the series moves into its final three rounds and the feeling is very much of maintaining the squad into next season.

Both Kalle Rovanperä and Elfyn Evans are understood to be on longer-term agreements with Toyota – the bigger question centred on whether Sébastien Ogier would remain involved into next year.

With the eight-time world champion already talking enthusiastically about a return to his beloved Rallye Monte-Carlo, it’s thought highly likely he and Esapekka Lappi will continue to share a GR Yaris Rally1 for a second successive season - with Lappi confirming on Thursday he feels 'confident' about his future with the team.

Takamoto Katsuta is also expected to run another full season as part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing WRC Challenge Program.

“We don’t have anything to announce yet, but when you look at how the team has been working this season, you could ask if we need to make the change," Latvala said.

"To have a driver of Sébastien’s experience is fantastic. We knew he would be a little bit busier through the summer with his racing commitments, but it’s great to have him in the car and, of course, we have seen really good consistent speed from EP as well.

“Kalle’s season has been amazing and Elfyn has just been missing some luck. Last year he was winning Finland at the end of the season, he didn’t lose any of that speed.”
