Ogier to contest all remaining rounds in 2022

Sébastien Ogier has confirmed today (Monday) that he will contest all remaining rounds of the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship with Toyota Gazoo Racing.

The eight-time world champion has undertaken a part-time campaign for the Japanese manufacturer squad this season, sharing a hybrid-powered GR Yaris Rally1 car with Finnish driver Esapekka Lappi.

Ogier was already confirmed in the line-up for next week’s Repco Rally New Zealand (29 September - 2 October) and was understood to be planning an outing at the season finale in Japan. This morning, however, the Frenchman confirmed he will also contest Rally RACC - Rally de España in mid-October.

The announcement means Ogier will drive at all three of this season’s remaining rounds, while EKO Acropolis Rally Greece earlier this month could well have been Lappi’s final outing of the year.

“I am very excited to go to New Zealand,” Ogier said, “but the news is that I will also compete in Spain and Japan to finish the last three events of the championship. I am really excited for this new challenge and I’m looking forward to seeing [everyone].”

Ogier has already started three rallies in 2022, with his best result coming at the season-opening Rallye Monte-Carlo when he finished second overall to old foe Sébastien Loeb.

Tyre troubles ruled the 38-year-old out on the first leg of Vodafone Rally de Portugal and he finished fourth last time out in Kenya after puncturing on day one.
