Greensmith upbeat about Greece chances

M-Sport Ford youngster Gus Greensmith is looking forward to putting a tough summer behind him when he lands into Athens for next week’s EKO Acropolis Rally Greece (8 - 11 September).

The 25-year-old Briton finished 19th overall at Ypres Rally Belgium after he went off the road on the second Saturday stage. Fast-forward two weeks and he’s looking forward to seeing the Puma Rally1 Hybrid back in gravel trim for a style of rally which has served him well in the past.

Greensmith won the WRC2 Pro class in Turkey in 2019, then scored his first ever World Rally Championship top-five result in a Ford Fiesta World Rally Car in 2020. He repeated that result on similarly rough roads in Greece last season.

“Greece is a good opportunity for a good result,” said Greensmith. “We know the car works well on those kinds of roads, on those kinds of technical gravel stages. I’m not too concerned [moving forward towards Acropolis].

“It has been a tough time and I think we reached the point where the team needed to take a step back before really focusing on Greece.”

M-Sport’s line-up for the Lamia-based tenth round of the season is tweaked with Sébastien Loeb returning for his fourth start in a Puma this year. Fellow Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux won’t start after damaging his car heavily last time out in Belgium.

Craig Breen, Pierre-Louis Loubet and Jourdan Serderidis complete the five-strong line-up of factory Pumas.
