Ingram seeks seat time ahead of Greece

Following on from his equal-best WRC finish, British driver Chris Ingram is seeking more seat time ahead of EKO Acropolis Rally Greece (8 - 11 September).

The Škoda Rally2 Evo star was on the WRC2 pace throughout Ypres Rally Belgium and even won the opening stage before a spin set him back on SS2.

Luckily, he was able to quickly recover and overtook Grégoire Munster on the final leg to clinch the WRC2 Junior victory as well as ninth overall. It equalled his best overall WRC result, achieved at Rally Turkey back in 2018.

“I was driving really smoothly with no risks the whole rally,” Ingram said of his Friday error. “That was the first mistake I made all year, it just took me by surprise and it is just one of those things.

“I am getting faster every rally, as everybody can see. The times have been really promising. We were up with Andreas Mikkelsen and Stepháne Lefebvre on most of the stages, I would say. We Just need to be a little bit more consistent and we will be there I believe.”

The question now is, what can Ingram do to improve on his consistency? This is something the former European Rally Champion puts down to more mileage in the Fabia.

“I barely get to drive a rally car. The only time I get to drive a rally car is when I turn up every few months to do one of these rallies, so I need to try and find a way to get a little bit more seat time.”

It is something he will be aiming to achieve in the next few days as he prepares for an all-out attack in Greece. Another strong result could be on the cards next week: Ingram competed there in 2021 in WRC3, finishing second in the class as well as fourth of all the Rally2 cars.

The 28-year-old currently leads WRC2 Junior by nine points from Emil Lindholm and sits fifth in the overall WRC2 standings.
