Aava: This will be the best Rally Estonia yet

Rally Estonia director Urmo Aava is confident next week (14 - 17 July) will be his nation’s biggest and best FIA World Rally Championship round yet.

Former WRC driver Aava says subtle changes to the format and route for this year’s event will help make it more memorable for both the fans and the crews.

One of the biggest changes outside of the stages themselves is the return of the ceremonial start and finish ceremonies to Tartu’s Town Hall Square, where the atmosphere will be incredible as large crowds flood back to wave off and greet their heroes back. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the event organisers to contain both inside the service park for the last two years.

Aava said: “This is going to be a special year. I think we are all very excited about seeing the hybrid generation of Rally1 cars on our fast and flowing roads for the first time. The stages are in fantastic condition.

“We have some new sections on the route, some sections which are really technical and, of course, we have the jumps and the fast places. Having the start and finish in the town is also a big thing for us. It takes us back to pre-COVID times. The admission to these ceremonies is free of charge and we’re looking forward to seeing a lot of fans having a lot of fun when they come back.

“Together with the FIA, WRC Promoter, the government of Estonia and our supporters and partners, honestly, I think we have made a rally that can be really the best Estonia yet.”

Toyota driver and championship leader Kalle Rovaperä will lead the cars into the stages, starting with the Visit Estonia Tartu test on Thursday (14 July) evening.
