The 26-year-old created history by becoming the first-ever female to win a WRC3 round when she steered a Ford Fiesta Rally3 to victory by over 20 minutes on her local event.
It was Wahome’s maiden start at an FIA World Rally Championship round and, while the youngster has never competed outside of Africa, she remains open to a stint in the all-Fiesta junior series.
“Definitely it is something I’d love to look into,” Wahome told WRC.com. “Kenya was my first time in this car, and I know I can do more with more seat time. That’s my aim - I have to make it there.
“Every time I am driving, no matter what car it is, I’m always thinking that I want to encourage more ladies to come back into the sport.
“It’s been a long time since any lady has been at the top of the sport, so that’s also my other goal - to make it up there,” she added.
Wahome’s path into the world of rallying was slightly unique. Her father, Jimmy, used to compete with a Subaru, but her career actually began on two wheels.
“My dad used to compete in the 80s and 90s and I always wanted to do it,” she explained. “I asked him one day, and he said the easiest thing for me to do would be motocross.
“I did motocross for 11 years and then eventually it was time to change. I got into autocross and rallycross, then I started in rallies with a Subaru one year ago.”
