Katsuta up to second after SS7 time amendment
Takamoto Katsuta has moved back into second overall at Safari Rally Kenya after event stewards corrected his time for Friday’s final stage.
The Toyota Gazoo Racing driver slipped from second to fourth in the Kedong test after being caught in the dust trail of Craig Breen’s M-Sport Ford Puma before slowing down to pass the Irishman’s stricken car 18.1km into the stage.
Upon investigation, rally stewards agreed that Katsuta was hindered by Breen’s car and issued an amended stage time of 18min 2.1sec - 10 seconds faster than his original time.
The decision puts the Japanese driver back into the runners-up spot, 14.6sec behind leader Kalle Rovanperä and 7.8sec ahead of Elfyn Evans. All three are driving GR Yaris cars. Ott Tänak moves down to fourth, 25.3sec back from the top spot.
