Ingram goes for mid-season reset

WRC2 Junior series leader Chris Ingram will use his mid-season break as a way to reset himself ahead of the second half of the year.

Ingram’s Portugal win and two third places from Italy and Croatia leave him with a six-point advantage over Nikolay Gryazin at the top of the table.

The Toksport Škoda driver will, however, sit out the next three rallies before returning in time for Ypres Rally Belgium.

Having started four rallies, Ingram has three more scoring opportunities in WRC2 – with the best six of seven counting.

“I’m happy with the first half of the season,” said the Englishman. “I won’t be in Kenya or Estonia, but I’m hoping to do the recce for Finland and be back in action in Ypres.

“Every time I come to a WRC round, I feel I’m learning loads and going home a stronger driver. This break in the summer will give me the chance to consolidate, train, and work on everything – including the mental strength aspect of competition – to come back even stronger.

“One thing I want to get rid of is the occasional dip in performance. I saw it in Sardinia; I scored my first fastest time in WRC2, which was great, but then there was a small drop-off. I know what I’ve got to do to put that right and I’ll work on that in the next couple of months.”
