Černý had spent most of Saturday trying to shake a pesky Dominguez off his tail. The Paraguayan debutant had kept his Czech rival within his sights throughout the day and was trailing by just 23sec going into the second loop of Coiluna – Loelle.
It was at that point that Černý’s day began to unravel when a heavy impact led to an electrical issue with his Ford Fiesta Rally3. He and co-driver Tomas Streska scrambled to rectify the problem, giving up four minutes to Dominguez before resolving the issue.
22-year-old Dominguez remained cool and collected in rising Sardinian temperatures and is now four stages away from a memorable victory.
Rounding out the all-Ford Fiesta Rally3 top three is Zoltán László a further 8min 16sec behind. The Hungarian moved into third after Italian veteran Enrico Brazzoli ran into trouble on the second passing of Erula – Tula. A rock pierced the Movisport driver’s fuel tank and it's unlikely he will restart on Sunday.
