Pajari pulls clear in WRC3

Sami Pajari holds a commanding lead in the WRC3 category after his rivals hit trouble on Friday at Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

Pajari grabbed a slender early lead over fellow Finn Lauri Joona on Friday morning, but slipped behind his compatriot after dropping nearly two minutes with a puncture on the first pass of Góis.

Roles were reversed on the very next test when Joona had similar troubles, opening the door for Pajari to reclaim the top spot.

He went on to win all the remaining stages as Joona hit further trouble on SS7 and finished 3min 38.5sec clear at the top.

"I have to say that I'm glad that we made it to service, the conditions were really rough especially on the second pass of the stages," said Pajari. "We also maintained our lead from yesterday so all good, but there's a big day coming up tomorrow."

There were no other finishers in the class. William Creighton’s day came to an early end when he ran out of spare wheels and Mcrae Kimathi crashed out at Mortágua.
