Rain and fog made for tough conditions and the Toyota Gazoo Racing pilot and co-driver Janne Ferm were caught out 9.9km after the start of the stage from Mali Lipovec to Grdanjci. They clipped a rock on the inside of a right corner and ground to a halt shortly afterwards with damaged suspension.

Disastrous start for Lappi in Croatia
Esapekka Lappi made a disastrous start to his Croatia Rally debut when the Finn parked his Toyota GR Yaris before the midpoint of the opening speed test after clobbering a roadside rock.
